• Chiropractic as an alternative remedy for back pain

Chiropractic can be a helpful measure if the specialist determines that joint blockages are the cause of back pain. A chiropractor can release the blockages by means of targeted impulses and thus relieve the back pain.

    What’s the chiropractor doing?

Physicians or alternative practitioners can continue their training in the field of chiropractic. The term chiropractic is a combination of the ancient Greek words cheir (hand) and praxis and describes how a chiropractor works. Only with his hands and special techniques does he try to release blockages in the joints that make themselves felt with pain and tense muscles. Chiropractic restores the functioning of muscles and joints. After a treatment, the pain can be relieved and in the best case, it can disappear.

Chiropractic is not a hammer-hook treatment: A responsible treatment requires time and patience. Especially during the first session, the chiropractor listens attentively to the patient. This is followed by a detailed examination and then the actual treatment.

    The examination

The thorough examination serves as the basis for a promising chirotherapy. In the first session, the patient’s medical history is recorded. During the actual examination, the chiropractor then checks the mobility of the joints: If there is a blockage, the joint play lacks elasticity and the movement ends abruptly. Furthermore the chiropractor checks of there is a hardening of the deeper back muscles, which indicates blockages. Before the actual chiropractic therapy begins, the therapist discusses the examination results and the course of therapy with the patient.

    Chiropractic: The healing jolt

In chiropractic therapy, the aim is to gently relieve the tensions and blockages in the spine. The chiropractor acts on the affected vertebral joint only with his hands (manually) and with minimal effort. The patient feels a quick, short but painless jolt.

During the treatment, the chiropractor makes contact with the blocked structure of the vertebrae. Now the test pulley is carried out: The therapist uses it to test whether the vertebra or joint can be moved freely into the correct position. The impulse is then applied to bring the vertebrae or joint back into the correct position. The impulse, also called healing jolt, always occurs in the painless direction. Often the tensions are already released by tension and test pull and the impulse is not necessary at all. The crackling when releasing the tension is often heard. This does not say anything about the effectiveness or failure of the treatment.

Many patients report spontaneous relief from treatment and are happy about the relief from long-term, stressful pain.

What can I do after the treatment?

If the blockages are completely eliminated by chiropractic, it is advisable to follow up treatment, for example with massage and physiotherapy. This supports the joints and helps to prevent renewed tension and misalignment of the joints.

Even more important is active exercise in the form of sporting activities such as back training, longer walking, cycling or gentle jogging and swimming. The sport trains and strengthens the weakened back muscles and promotes general well-being.
